New Years´day

On January 1st are held big dances in Central Park in San Jose.

Three Wise Men - three kings

The January 6th, a day of three Wise Men is a equivalent of polish day of Three Kings. Families and neighbours meet each other and pray. It`s a time of putting away the X-mas trees.

Fiesta in Palmares

It`s held in the middle of the January and lasts about a week. It consists of carnivals, bullfightings, races, horse parades and cooking shows.

Fiesta of Black Christ in Santa Cruz

On every year in the second week of january is celebrated the fiesta of Black Christ from Esquipulas. There are organized rodeo, folk dances competition (among others the national dance of Punta Guanacasteco) and marimbas shows.

Fiesta in Alajuelita

On January 15th, in honour of Alajuelita patron (Black Christ of Esquipulas) is held the fiesta with a ox-carts parade and the procession to the huge metal cross put in surrounded mountains.

Playa Grande and the turtles

On playa Grande the letherback turtles lay their eggs.

In the middle of January, in Escazu is held a week-long international tennis tourney "Copa del Cafe".

In the last week of February the carnival in Puntarenas is held.

The music festival in Monteverde
